Kyrgyzstan, represented by the special representative of the president for the mountain agenda, Dinara Kemelova, is participating in the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP-30), taking place in the city of Belém, Brazil.

As reminded by the president's press service, Kyrgyzstan leads the Mountain Group under the Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

From November 11 to 15, Kemelova, representing Kyrgyzstan at high-level meetings, spoke at plenary sessions and thematic events, emphasizing the need to enhance international cooperation and funding for climate initiatives in mountain regions.

She noted that mountain ecosystems, which are home to critically important water sources, unique biodiversity, and vulnerable cryospheres, are experiencing serious consequences from climate change, necessitating coordinated actions from the parties to the UN Framework Convention.

On November 14, multilateral consultations on mountains and climate change were held, organized under the chairmanship of Brazil, where Kyrgyzstan proposed to continue the Mountain Dialogue. Participants representing more than 30 countries and interested organizations acknowledged Kyrgyzstan's leadership on mountain agenda issues and supported initiatives put forward on behalf of the Mountain Group in partnership with Bhutan and Nepal.

At the Third High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Climate Financing, the Kyrgyz delegation emphasized the importance of simplifying access for developing countries to climate resources and proposed to establish a global center in Bishkek to enhance the capacity and resilience of mountain countries to climate change.

Particular attention at COP-30 was given to the signing ceremony of the agreement between ADB and ZKF for the implementation of the "From Glaciers to Farms" (G2F) project, which amounts to 250 million USD. The project will be implemented in Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Pakistan with the aim of enhancing the adaptation and resilience of farmers and vulnerable populations in mountain regions to climate change.

Additionally, five thematic events took place with the participation of the Kyrgyz delegation, focusing on global priorities in mountain ecosystems, glaciers, cryosphere, carbon programs, forest conservation, disaster risk reduction, and biodiversity conservation, as well as strengthening climate actions in Central Asia in the context of the updated UNFCCC 3.0.

The Kyrgyz delegation is actively participating in negotiations at COP-30, promoting the mountain agenda in the final documents of the conference and reaffirming its leading role in these climate processes.
