The delegation of Kyrgyzstan, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baysalov and the President's Special Representative for the implementation of the Decade of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions Dinara Kemelova, is participating in the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30).

According to information provided by the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the conference started on November 10 in Belém, Brazil, and gathered about 50,000 participants from 190 countries.

The main goal of the Kyrgyz delegation is to protect the interests of residents of mountain regions within the framework of climate negotiations and to draw the world's attention to issues related to the vulnerability of mountain ecosystems to climate change.

As a result of consultations with the Chair of COP30 and other participants, an agreement was reached to hold multilateral consultations on mountain issues under the auspices of the Brazilian presidency. These meetings are planned to discuss measures for adapting and enhancing the resilience of mountain communities and ecosystems to climate change.

During the conference, there was also a meeting of the Kyrgyz delegation with the Executive Director of the UN Climate Change Secretariat Simon Steele, where issues of access to climate financing for mountain regions were discussed.

Additionally, the Kyrgyz delegation presented ideas for the establishment of a Global Center for the Resilience of Mountain Areas in Bishkek. In the coming days, the delegation will continue to actively participate in negotiations aimed at advancing the mountain agenda at this conference.
