At the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Brazil, the Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan, Meder Mashiev, is actively participating.

The conference is taking place in the city of Belém with around 50,000 representatives from 190 countries.

On November 17, the minister participated in the high-level opening of the conference. UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell emphasized the importance of promptly making key decisions and actively advancing the negotiation process.

On that day, consultations on mountains and climate change also took place, during which it was decided to organize an expert dialogue on these issues in Bonn in June 2026.

On November 18, Meder Mashiev spoke at the high-level segment of the conference, highlighting that Kyrgyzstan, despite low emission levels, faces high climate vulnerability. Climate change is leading to glacier loss, pasture degradation, and biodiversity reduction, as well as an increase in natural disasters.

The minister also announced the presentation of an updated National Emission Reduction Strategy, which sets more ambitious goals for the development of renewable energy and the adaptation of mountain ecosystems.

“Kyrgyzstan is initiating the establishment of a Global Center for Mountain Resilience in Bishkek, which will become an international platform for science, data exchange, and capacity building for mountain countries,” he added.
