At the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, taking place in Belém (Brazil), the Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan, Meder Mashiev, addresses an audience of about 50,000 participants from 190 countries.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources, on November 18, Mashiev made a statement during the high-level segment of the conference, emphasizing that Kyrgyzstan is characterized by low emissions but suffers from significant climate vulnerability. Climate change is leading to glacier loss, pasture degradation, decreased biodiversity, and an increase in the frequency of natural disasters.

The Minister also reported on the presentation of the updated version of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0, which contains more ambitious goals for emission reductions, the development of renewable energy sources, and increased energy efficiency, as well as the adaptation of mountain ecosystems and local communities.

Mashiev highlighted the initiative to create a Global Center for Mountain Resilience in Bishkek, which will serve as an international platform for scientific research, early warning, data exchange, and adaptation technologies, as well as training personnel for mountain countries.

The Vice President of Brazil, Geraldo Alckmin, stated at the opening of the conference that this event should mark the beginning of a new era that will lead to real changes in the climate sphere. He reminded attendees of the commitment to quadruple the use of clean fuels by 2035, which has already been joined by 25 countries, and called for the search for innovative solutions in the fields of bioeconomy and decarbonization.

Additionally, on November 17, the conference hosted Consultations on Mountains and Climate Change, resulting in a decision to hold an Expert Dialogue on this topic in June 2026 in Bonn (Germany).
