In Bishkek, employees of the Environmental and Technical Supervision Service conducted a quality check of coal sold at one of the retail points. The control was carried out using a dosimeter that measures the radiation background level of the fuel.

Experts explained that the permissible radiation level for coal should not exceed 300 microrems per hour. If this threshold is exceeded, such coal is considered unsafe for use. Measurements are taken at a distance of approximately 15 centimeters from the coal sample.

According to the results of the inspection at this retail point, the radiation background level was 70 microrems per hour, which is within the norm.

The inspector of the regional environmental supervision department for Bishkek and the Alamudun district, Ularbek Kudaybergenov, noted that a significant amount of dust was found in the inspected coal, which does not meet quality standards. He added that the minimum size of the coal fraction should be at least 13 mm, and smaller particles are not allowed for sale.

The head of the atmospheric air protection department of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Almaz Oskonbaev, reminded that last year a resolution was adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers prohibiting the sale of coal with a fraction of less than 13 mm. However, he also pointed out that during transportation, coal may accidentally be crushed.

Nevertheless, some sellers use the base of an old bed for sorting coal from fine fractions, with its spring helping to separate small particles.
