Pilot testing will begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 and continue until the second quarter of 2027.
During this period, a platform for the digital som will be developed and P2P transfers without intermediaries will be tested.
Funding for the project will be provided by the National Bank.
Earlier, Melis Turgunbaev, the chairman of the NB KR, emphasized that the digital som will be officially recognized as the third form of national currency, alongside cash and non-cash funds. This will allow both individuals and legal entities to make transfers between cash and digital currencies.
