Aynura Orozbaeva: Kyrgyzstan is preparing an active longevity program until 2030
At a recent conference dedicated to issues of active longevity in Kyrgyzstan, Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Protection, and Migration Ainura Orozbaeva announced the development of a new concept aimed at supporting the elderly in the country.
According to the UN, by 2030, it is expected that about 7% of Kyrgyzstan's population will be over 65 years old. This change, on one hand, indicates an improvement in the quality of life, as people are living longer, but on the other hand, it necessitates the adaptation of various systems, including healthcare and social protection, to the growing number of elderly citizens.
Ainura Orozbaeva emphasized that the increase in life expectancy requires the state to adopt new approaches to ensuring a decent, active, and, above all, healthy longevity for the older generation.
As part of the National Development Program until 2030, measures are planned to improve social assistance for the elderly, as well as to develop infrastructure for leisure, education, and rehabilitation, which will allow older people to actively participate in social and labor life.
The deputy minister also highlighted the need to foster a positive attitude in society towards elderly citizens.
“There are many positive examples from global practices. We must strive to create a society where elderly people actively participate in the life of the country and contribute to its development, rather than just living out their years,” noted Ainura Jantayevna.
She added that this is a new stage for both society and the state, which can be called a "mental revolution." However, changes are possible only if actions are taken gradually.
“The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection is actively working on a state program for active longevity until 2030, which will serve as the foundation for policy in this area. The program will create conditions for maintaining the health, activity, and sense of security of elderly citizens,” she stated.
In conclusion, Orozbaeva emphasized that the successful implementation of an effective system for happy longevity in Kyrgyzstan is only possible through the joint efforts of the state, the expert community, NGOs, local authorities, and the citizens themselves.
“Today’s conference can serve as a starting point for this important work,” the deputy minister summarized.
