In the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, today, October 31, a presentation of the analytical review "Aging of the Population of the Kyrgyz Republic: Challenges and Prospects" took place.

The presentation of this study (monograph) was prepared based on data collected during the 2022 population census, as well as materials from previous censuses in 1999 and 2009.

The analytical review provides relevant information on the size and structure of the population, employment, education levels, healthcare, and quality of life of citizens, making it an important tool for developing solutions related to active longevity and social policy.

The review also presents a comparative analysis with international and regional trends, which helps to identify the features of demographic processes in Kyrgyzstan and determine key directions of state policy in light of population aging.

According to the data, Kyrgyzstan is expected to experience an acceleration in the aging process of its population: by 2030, the proportion of people aged 65 and older will be about 7%, and by 2050—almost 19%. These changes will bring the country closer to the indicators of European countries and create new challenges for the social protection and healthcare systems.

Kyrgyzstan has already entered the stage of demographic aging, and this situation requires a comprehensive approach and interagency cooperation. One of the most pressing challenges is the increasing number of people over 75 years old, who represent the most vulnerable age group in need of special attention and support.

Thus, the analytical review emphasizes that population aging is a complex issue requiring the involvement not only of government structures but of society as a whole. Rapid changes in the demographic situation, high levels of poverty, regional disparities, and insufficient development of specialized services present both risks and new opportunities for promoting issues of active longevity in Kyrgyzstan.

During the discussion, participants highlighted several key problems faced by elderly people. These include a lack of volunteers who could assist pensioners, the absence of government programs aimed at promoting active longevity, and manifestations of ageism in society. Participants noted that the formation of a culture of healthy living should start with the younger generation.

As possible solutions, measures to promote a healthy lifestyle and the development of tourism initiatives for elderly people were proposed. Additionally, the need to create government laboratories where elderly citizens could regularly undergo medical examinations and tests was emphasized.

The event was organized by the NGO "Resource Center for the Elderly," with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Kyrgyzstan.
