An analytical review titled 'Aging Population of the Kyrgyz Republic: Challenges and Prospects' was presented in Bishkek

On October 31, an analytical report titled "Aging Population of Kyrgyzstan: Challenges and Prospects" was presented in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek. This review was prepared based on data from the 2022 population census and previous censuses conducted in 1999 and 2009.

According to Baktybek Kainazarov, head of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) office in Kyrgyzstan, this document provides relevant information about the population size, its structure, employment levels, education, healthcare, and quality of life. It also serves as an important tool for developing solutions in social policy and active longevity.

The analysis also includes comparisons with global and regional trends, allowing for the identification of unique features of demographic changes in Kyrgyzstan and determining key directions for state policy in the context of an aging population.

According to data presented by UNFPA, Kyrgyzstan will face an acceleration of the aging process in the coming decades. By 2030, the proportion of elderly people (aged 65 and older) in the country may reach about 7%, and by 2050—almost 19%. These figures bring the country closer to levels characteristic of European countries, which will create new challenges for the social protection and healthcare systems.

Kainazarov also noted that Kyrgyzstan is already in a phase of demographic aging, and this is not a future issue but a current problem that requires comprehensive and interdepartmental solutions. One significant challenge is the increasing number of people over 75 years old, who represent the most vulnerable category and need special attention and support.

Thus, the analytical review emphasizes that aging population is a multifaceted issue that requires attention from both the state and society as a whole. Rapid changes in demographic structure, high poverty levels, regional disparities, and a lack of specialized services create risks but also open new opportunities for promoting active longevity in Kyrgyzstan.
