In the pasture Ükök near the village of Kosh-Döbö in the Kochkor district of the Naryn region lies the area of Kyz-Mazar.

This place is located 10-15 km north of the village of Kara-Küngöy in the Kosh-Döbö ayil okmotu. In the pasture Ükök, there is a small hill. Its top is surrounded by stones. Nearby flows the river Ükök ("Mazar ükök") and a right tributary of the river Chuy. This water originates from the northern slopes of the Teskey Ala-Too and flows through the Kochkor valley.

A Turmush correspondent tried to find out the origin of the name of the area Kyz-Mazar.

According to a folk legend, in the past, a middle-class farmer lived on the banks of the river Ükök. His daughter was as beautiful as the moon. This girl and a young man from a neighboring village fell in love with each other. The young man asked for her hand from her parents, but by that time the girl was already betrothed, so her parents refused. Despite this, the girl and the young man continued to meet at night. After some time, the young man decided to steal the girl away. They agreed on this in advance. As usual, the girl came to the agreed meeting place by the river as night fell. She waited for him by the river near the mountain. The young man was late. Eventually, the girl fell asleep. At dawn, her father woke up to read the prayer ("bagymdat namaz"). At that moment, he noticed his daughter's absence and went out to search for her. The man saw a camel calf that was crying. Approaching this place, he saw that his daughter had frozen to death. The calf was crying over the death of the beauty. The place where this girl was buried was named Kyz-Mazar.

The correspondent also quotes the words of a former resident of the village of Kara-Suu, Ilyaz moldo Myrzabek uulu, who once recounted the following:

“In the 1916s, people lived in the pasture Ükök. Early in the morning, people came and saw the body of a dead girl by the river. When they approached, they found out that she had died from freezing. We do not know where she came from or where she was going. No one who knew her was found. We read the prayer ("janaza") and buried the body near the river at the foot of the mountain.”

In the 1990s, the area of Kyz-Mazar was fenced off to prevent livestock from trampling there.

According to local residents, a white camel calf sometimes appears in this place, and its cries can be heard.

According to a resident of the village of Kara-Küngöy, Jekshen Joldoshbek uulu, his mother, Shirin Sagymbaeva, could not give birth for 9 years. In 1957, she went to the area of Kyz-Mazar, where she prayed all night. After returning, she became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter. After that, she consecutively gave birth to seven more children.

A resident of the village of Kochkor, Beishembubu Kudaybergenova, born in 1960, noted that people who cannot have children come to the area of Kyz-Mazar, and not only them.

“Whatever you ask for in this place, it all comes true. But mostly, those who cannot get pregnant come,” she said.
