How the villages in Talas live, where the ex-president, the first and only athlete to win 2 medals at the Olympic Games, and famous singers were born

The rural areas are home to the majority of the residents of Kyrgyzstan, and each village has its unique history and outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to its development.

Turmush continues to introduce readers to various villages in the country. We have already told about the village of Emgekchil, thriving due to gold deposits, about Sary-Tologoy — one of the easternmost villages, about Barpy, the homeland of heroes, and about Keng-Suu, whose history spans over three centuries.

The Kumushtak [Күмүштак] rural district is located in the center of the Talas region. To the east, it borders the city of Talas, to the west — the village of Bakyyan in the Aitmatov district, to the south — the Talas ridge, and to the north — the Echikili ridge.

The rural district includes the villages of Boo-Terek, Kyrgyzstan, 1-May, and Jon-Korgon, with a total population of 12,662 people and 2,070 households.

In the Kumushtak rural district, there are 1 building of the village administration, 4 schools, 3 kindergartens, 1 vocational college, 2 medical and obstetric points (MOP), 2 communication nodes, 2 cultural houses, 2 village libraries, 4 wrestling halls, and 28 retail outlets.

According to the presidential decree dated December 29, 2023, No. 370 on conducting administrative-territorial reform, on January 18, 2024, the village administration issued order No. 01-17/6, which approved the calendar plan of activities. The village administrations of Oro and Boo-Terek were merged into one — the Kumushtak village administration.

The new Kumushtak village administration became one of the first to register with the justice authorities and is now actively functioning. The total area of the rural district is 46,681 hectares, of which:

- Arable land — 2,558.8 hectares;

- Redistribution Fund (FPF) — 420 hectares;

- Apple orchards — 173 hectares;

- Lakes — 231.9 hectares;

- Rain-fed land — 4 hectares.

In 2024, the sown areas of the Kumushtak rural district were distributed as follows:

- Beans — 3,871 hectares;

- Corn — 70 hectares;

- Potatoes — 172 hectares;

- Sugar beets — 5.5 hectares;

- Vegetables — 215 hectares;

- Fruits and berries — 120 hectares;

- Perennial grasses — 689 hectares;

- Spring barley — 77.5 hectares;

- Spring wheat — 67 hectares.

For the major renovation of the old building of the D. Duyshbaev Secondary School in the village of Boo-Terek, a special project was developed, which received support. A total of 4,600,000 soms was allocated for these purposes, of which 1,763,491 soms was provided from the local budget. The work has been completed, and in September 2024, the school was put into operation.

According to the village administration, on October 13, 2024, a ceremonial opening of the closed sports complex named after Sagynbek Jamankulov took place in the village of Kyrgyzstan in the Kumushtak rural district of the Bakai-Ata region.

The construction of this sports complex began in May 2019. It accommodates 130 spectators, with a length of 54 meters and a width of 24 meters. The total estimated cost of the project was 41,840,000 soms, of which 36,892,700 soms, or 90%, were allocated from the local budget, while the remaining amount came from the development fund of the Talas region.

For the major renovation of the MOP building in the village of 1-May, 864,431 soms were allocated from the agency, and 159,000 soms from the local budget for the local contribution. The renovation work was completed, and in June, the facility was put into operation, with a total cost of 1,023,431 soms.



On the road connecting the village of 1-May with the village of Kyrgyzstan, asphalt was laid over a distance of 4 km (financed from the republican budget), and the road was put into operation. Preparatory work has also been completed for the asphalt of the central street Rajap over 2 km, and the asphalt laying will be finished soon.

The construction of a training hall in the village of 1-May began in 2022. Currently, the work has been completed, and the facility will be put into operation soon. The total cost of the project was 7,408,610 soms, and the hall accommodates 120 people, with internal and external finishing work now being completed.

The construction of a new building for the T. Cholushev Secondary School in the village of 1-May started in 2020 with funding from the republican budget. The estimated cost of the project is 101,521,845 soms. Currently, the work is 35% complete, the walls of the second floor have been erected, and the roof is fully covered.

In the village of Kyrgyzstan, with the help of the development fund and the local budget, a mini-workshop for the production of fruit juices costing 2,325,505 soms has been built and is preparing for launch.

The old building of the Tychubek uulu Janadil Secondary School in the village of Kyrgyzstan has been repurposed into a kindergarten. For this purpose, 3,506,904 soms were allocated from the local budget, and the renovation has been completed. Additionally, 2 million soms were allocated for the purchase of necessary furniture for the kindergarten.

To ensure the transportation of schoolchildren from the new remote settlement of Ak-Taylak to the Tychubek uulu Janadil Secondary School and back, a state bus was purchased. To improve the road to the cemetery in the village of Boo-Terek, 160,180 soms were allocated from the local budget, and 92 trips with gravel were completed.

For the replacement of street lighting lamps in the villages of Kyrgyzstan, 1-May, and Jon-Korgon, 167,410 soms were allocated, and in the village of Boo-Terek — 199,000 soms, totaling 366,410 soms. To date, the lighting has been completely updated.

Roza Isakovna Otunbayeva — former president of Kyrgyzstan, born in the village of Boo-Terek. She is also a special representative for Afghanistan and head of the UN mission in that country.
