During the administrative-territorial reform (ATR) in Kyrgyzstan, more than 4,000 municipal employees were laid off. This was reported by Kudaibergen Bazarbaev, the director of the State Agency for Public Service and Local Self-Government, on the air of "Birinchi Radio."

According to him, before the reform began, there were 452 ayil okmotu operating in the republic, employing about 10,000 staff.

“After the reform was completed, the number of ayil okmotu was reduced to 230. Recently, a decision was made to establish the city of Gulcha based on one of the ayil okmotu. As a result of the reform, the system retained 6,000 municipal workers, which allowed for savings of approximately 2 billion soms per year. These funds were directed towards the development of ayil okmotu,” Bazarbaev added. He emphasized that the process of merging weaker ayil okmotu with stronger ones was carefully planned.

He also noted that the ATR was implemented according to the classical scheme: first at the district level, and then, after assessing the positive results, moved to the regional level. In 2024, the reform is expected to cover the entire country.
