Today, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy with representatives of the country's television channels. The main topic of the meeting was the proposal to increase the share of domestic content on air.
An analysis conducted by the ministry showed that many television channels continue to broadcast programs created more than ten years ago, and there are virtually no broadcasts in the Kyrgyz language during prime time.
Deputy Minister Marat Tagaev noted that Article 8 of the Law "On Television and Radio Broadcasting," which requires broadcasting in state and official languages, is not being fulfilled. The share of programs in the state language should be at least 60%.
"Some television channels only formally comply with this law by re-broadcasting old programs. I understand that the modern media market faces various difficulties, including advertising issues. However, the ministry must insist that viewers have the opportunity to watch content in the Kyrgyz language," he emphasized.
According to Tagaev, the main task is to ensure compliance with the law, promote the development of the state language, protect viewers' rights, and improve the quality of television content.
The deputy minister also suggested that television channels consider the possibility of entering into agreements with the studios under the ministry, such as "Kyrgyzfilm" and "Kyrgyzserial," to acquire feature films and series for broadcasting.
