The premiere of the play "Oturgučtar," based on Eugene Ionesco's play "The Chairs," will take place at the A. Umuraliev Bishkek City Drama Theater on March 13, 14, and 15 at 19:00.
This play, written in 1951, became a symbol of the theater of the absurd and has been reinterpreted on numerous stages around the world, gaining cult status.
Ionesco himself defined the genre of this work as tragic farce, noting: "A chair is what remains of a person when he steps out for a moment. The chair still holds his warmth, echoes the curves and experiences of the body, but without the person, it is nothing."
For the Kyrgyz audience, the play will be presented for the first time in their native language thanks to the translation by the outstanding poetess and honored figure of culture of the Kyrgyz Republic, Alymkan Degenbaeva.
The director of the production is Chagalak Zamirbekov, and the set design and costumes were developed by Zuhra Mukambetova. The choreographic part was prepared by the honored figure of culture of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sergey Streltzov.
The play "Oturgučtar" is a touching and simple story about life, love, loneliness, and aging. It tells the story of two characters who are isolated from the outside world and live in memories, believing that there is nothing better than their lives.
On stage, talented actors from the theater, Nakynai Diykanova and honored artist of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ruslan Orozakunov, will portray the last day of an old man and an old woman in a space filled with chairs.
The characters await invisible guests, communicate with each other, dance, and flirt with an audience that exists only in their imagination. Throughout the performance, they relive their lives, trying to make sense of eternal questions about the meaning of existence. The production combines dark humor with comedic and touching moments, creating an authentic atmosphere.
