The services sector continues to hold a key position in the structure of Kyrgyzstan's gross domestic product, accounting for nearly 50%. It has made the largest contribution to the country's economic growth, which amounted to 3.64 percentage points, while real growth reached 107.1%. This data was announced by the Ministry of Economy of Kyrgyzstan.
However, it has been reported that in January and February 2026, the growth rate of this sector is slowing down, which is associated with a decline in wholesale trade dynamics. This trade, combined with retail and the repair of cars and motorcycles, makes up about 30% of the total volume of the services sector.
One of the reasons for the decrease in activity is the seasonal factor: at the beginning of the year, a reduction in business and trading activity is traditionally recorded. After the December surge in consumer demand, a decline is observed in January, leading to a decrease in turnover in both wholesale and retail trade.
Nevertheless, compared to January-February 2025, the turnover of wholesale and retail trade, as well as the repair of cars and motorcycles, increased by 13.2%, which is mainly due to a 14.3% growth in retail trade volumes and a 9.1% increase in wholesale trade.
The gross volume of transport services and cargo storage amounted to 21.9 billion soms, which is 3.7% more compared to the same period in 2025. This increase occurred due to an 18.4% growth in postal and courier services.
The volume of services in hotels and restaurants for the first two months of 2026 increased by 13.2%, reaching 7.7 billion soms compared to the same period in 2025.
Additionally, the gross volume of services in the field of information and communication grew by 8.2% compared to last year.
