The royal court has announced that Prince Andrew will be stripped of all his titles and will leave the Royal Lodge residence in Windsor. This decision was made by King Charles III, as reported by DW.
In an official statement, it was mentioned that Prince Andrew has been given notice of the termination of his lease for the residence, and he will need to move to another private residence. According to BBC information, his new home will be the royal estate of Sandringham in Norfolk, and the living expenses will be covered by the king.
This decision comes in the wake of the scandal related to his connections with American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of sex trafficking minors. Epstein was found dead in his prison cell in 2019.
The discussion of Prince Andrew's friendship with Epstein has resurfaced following the publication of excerpts from Virginia Giuffre's posthumous memoirs, in which she claims she was a victim of human trafficking and had sexual relations with the prince when she was 17 years old.
According to information from Buckingham Palace, Andrew will now be referred to as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
Earlier this month, Prince Andrew renounced his title of Duke of York. In 2022, he was stripped of most of his other titles and removed from royal duties. Despite the loss of his title, he remains eighth in line to the British throne.
