According to the laboratory, disturbances will be caused by a solar plasma ejection moving towards our planet after an M8.1 class flare recorded on the night of December 9.
Although the flare itself was not particularly powerful, its center was directed straight at Earth, which will ensure an almost direct hit with maximum effect. No factors are expected that could weaken this impact.
“Modeling shows that the peak impact is expected in the afternoon of December 9. This, combined with high values of geomagnetic indices, creates excellent conditions for the appearance of auroras,” the message added.
Preliminary forecasts suggest that geomagnetic disturbances may continue until Thursday.
