A powerful magnetic storm, close to its maximum level, has been registered on our planet, reports the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAN on its Telegram channel.

According to the publication, there is currently a "very strong planetary-scale magnetic storm" that has nearly reached the highest level G5. This is due to the approach of the first of three plasma clouds expected today against the backdrop of a significant increase in solar activity in recent days.

Scientists note that the current geomagnetic state is sharply different from initial forecasts. Three ejections caused by three recent solar flares are heading towards the planet. It was expected that only the first, weakest cloud would arrive at night, which was supposed to cause storms of levels G1-G2.

The peak impact, as expected, should occur in the middle of the day when plasma from the third flare approaches Earth, the laboratory reported.

Researchers suggest that the only explanation for the current situation may be that the last plasma cloud from yesterday's flare (the most powerful this year) is moving at a record speed and catching up with the slower clouds, thereby increasing the temperature, density, and magnetic characteristics.
