Solar flares are classified by the intensity of X-ray radiation into five categories: A, B, C, M, and X. X-class flares are the most powerful and can cause severe geomagnetic storms.
The index indicated after the letter specifies the degree of intensity of the flare. For classes A, B, C, and M, it ranges from 1.0 to 9.9, while for class X, it exceeds 10.
The most powerful X-class flare was recorded on November 10 at 12:19 Moscow time. The day before, on November 9, scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences reported a flare of strength X1.79, after which the Sun emitted a significant amount of plasma towards Earth.
