Levon Oganesov, People's Artist of Russia and talented pianist, passed away on December 13 at the age of 84. This was reported by his daughter Maria Shklover, citing her father's long battle with cancer.
Maria noted that Oganesov will be remembered for his virtuosic skill and bright humor by his many fans. "For us, he will forever remain a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, and loyal friend," she wrote.
The farewell to the artist is scheduled for December 16 in New York, where he will be buried at Kensico Cemetery.
Levon (Leonty) Oganesov was born on December 25, 1940, in Moscow. From an early age, starting at four, he showed an interest in music. He studied at the Central Music School and later graduated from the Ippolitov-Ivanov Music College, where he repeatedly won various piano competitions.
At the age of 18, he debuted on the concert stage, replacing the ailing pianist Naum Walter at a performance in the Column Hall of the House of Unions. Throughout his career, he accompanied such famous artists as Klavdiya Shulzhenko, Kapitolina Lazarenko, and Valentina Tolkunova, and he also worked for a long time with Joseph Kobzon.
In addition, Oganesov co-hosted popular TV shows such as "Club 'White Parrot'", "Hustle Around the Piano", and "Good Evening with Igor Ugolnikov". He also acted in the Satire Theater and appeared in films, including Eldar Ryazanov's "The Key to the Bedroom" and Vladimir Potapov's "Dacha for Sale".
