Maria Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, was unable to attend the ceremony for her award. This was reported by BBC News.

She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her fight for democracy in Venezuela, and the ceremony was scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

However, on Tuesday, the Nobel Institute announced the cancellation of the press conference related to the laureate and expressed confusion about her whereabouts.

The laureate's daughter, Ana Corina Sosa Machado, received the diploma and gold medal featuring Alfred Nobel's image. She also took the stage to deliver a speech on behalf of her mother.

In her speech, Machado noted: "This award is of immense significance; it reminds the whole world of the importance of democracy. The main lesson that we, Venezuelans, can offer the world is one we have learned on this long and difficult journey: to achieve democracy, we must be ready to fight for freedom. Freedom is a choice we must reaffirm every day, measuring it by our courage and willingness to defend it."
