Kyrgyz athletes participated in the world championship in pankration, which is taking place in Astana (Kazakhstan) from November 29-30.
The President of the Federation of Unarmed Combat, Emil Toktogonov, reported that within the framework of this tournament, the title of world champion in the weight category up to 65 kg will be contested.
“In the competitions in this weight category, the title of world champion will be contested, while in the other weight classes, the fight will be for the Eurasian Cup,” noted E. Toktogonov.
The Kyrgyzstan national team consists of 2 athletes in each weight category. The team is led by coach Rustam Omurbekov.
The competitions began on October 27 in the city of Sochi (Russia). More than 300 athletes from 22 countries gathered there. The cadets and juniors were the first to compete.
Kyrgyzstani athletes won one gold and two bronze medals.
Alymbek Temirov (19 years old), competing in the weight category over 75 kilograms, took the highest step on the podium. Azamat uulu Arseniy (19 years old) finished third in the 66 kg weight class. Bayaman Mamataliyev (17 years old) also secured third place in the same weight class.
