The award ceremony for one of the most prestigious literary prizes took place in London, chaired by Irish playwright Roddy Doyle.
According to Roddy Doyle, the jury members spent over five hours discussing the six books that made it to the final list. "We kept coming back to 'Flesh'; it stood out among the other remarkable works due to its uniqueness. We had never encountered anything like it. Although the book has dark moments, reading it is a pleasure," he noted.
The novel "Flesh," which is Szalay's sixth, tells the story of a young Hungarian named István, who goes through various stages of life—from a modest Hungarian housing complex to the glittering world of the wealthy in London.
The Booker Prize is a prestigious award given annually for the best work of fiction written in English and published in the United Kingdom or Ireland.
