According to information provided by Reuters, the United States seized the tanker Olina in the Caribbean Sea, near Trinidad. This is the fifth instance of vessel interception in recent weeks, which is part of Washington's efforts to control Venezuelan oil exports, confirmed two U.S. officials.

A knowledgeable source from the oil industry reported that the tanker Olina, which, according to Equasis database, falsified documents and flew the flag of East Timor, recently left Venezuela and was attempting to return to the region.

The British company Vanguard, specializing in marine risks, noted that the last time the tanker’s tracking system was active was 52 days ago, when the vessel was in Venezuela's exclusive economic zone, northeast of Curacao.

According to industry sources, the tanker Olina left a Venezuelan port last week, fully loaded with oil, as part of a fleet, and was intercepted shortly after the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on January 3. The vessel was again heading back to Venezuela fully loaded after the U.S. imposed a blockade on Venezuelan oil exports.
