The Supreme Court of Venezuela has confirmed that Delcy Rodriguez will become the interim president of the country, as stated in the official decree.

The document states that her task is to "ensure administrative continuity and comprehensive defense of the state."

During her televised address on January 3, Rodriguez emphasized that the legitimate president of Venezuela remains Nicolas Maduro. She also expressed the determination of the country's authorities to free him and noted that Venezuela will never become a colony.

The day before, on January 3, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced a military operation in Venezuela, stating that Maduro is no longer the head of state. He added that the United States would take over the management of the country during the transitional period.

That same night, an operation was carried out during which Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were detained and taken out of Venezuela. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi reported that they have been charged with "narcoterrorism" and will soon face trial in New York.

According to the Venezuelan Constitution, in the event of the temporary absence of the president, the vice president performs his duties for a period of up to 90 days, with the possibility of extending this period for an equivalent duration by decision of the National Assembly.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the actions of the United States regarding Venezuela and called for the release of Nicolas Maduro. That same evening, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a phone conversation with Delcy Rodriguez.
