According to reports, Maduro's proposal involved granting American energy companies access to Venezuela's oil resources. As reported by the AP agency, Venezuelan officials suggested that Vice President Delcy Rodriguez take the presidency during a transitional period that was supposed to last until 2031, with no intention of running for election.

However, this proposal was rejected, as the U.S. continues to not recognize the legitimacy of Maduro's regime. Washington believes that "any delay in the transfer of power by Maduro is unacceptable," as reported by the NYT.

According to The New York Times, the U.S. administration is also considering a military operation against Venezuela, including special operations to capture Maduro as part of a broader strategy for ensuring security in the Caribbean region.

Since September of this year, American military forces have conducted a number of operations against vessels suspected of drug trafficking, including those departing from Venezuelan ports.

Maduro: Media Distort Facts

The White House is exploring various ways to pressure the Venezuelan government, including increasing sanctions, diplomatic measures, and boosting military presence in the region. According to The New York Times, Trump approved CIA plans for conducting covert operations in Venezuela.

Nicolas Maduro characterized U.S. actions as a "hostile siege." In his television address, he stated that there was no proposal for him to resign, adding that the media distorts information to divide the people. He also warned of the consequences of any foreign military actions for the region and confirmed that Venezuela is open to dialogue, provided its sovereignty is respected.

Maduro sarcastically reacted to Trump's statement about allowing the CIA to operate in Venezuela: "Who can believe that the CIA hasn't been working in our country for 60 years?"

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez also called the rumors about a "plan for Maduro's resignation" a fabrication. It is worth noting that in January of this year, Nicolas Maduro was sworn in for his third six-year term.
