The authorities of Moldova plan to denounce the visa-free agreement with the CIS countries. This was reported by "Azattyk," citing information from local news sources.

According to available data, this decision is part of a strategy to align the country's legislation with the norms of the European Union.

Chișinău is reviewing a number of old agreements made during the post-Soviet period. Previously, citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan had the opportunity to visit Moldova without visas.

If the new document is adopted, citizens of these countries will need to obtain a visa for trips to Moldova, whether for study, work, or personal needs.

Representatives of the Moldovan government emphasize that this step is not directed against specific countries, but is necessitated by the need to comply with European visa and migration standards.

In the last three years, Moldova has withdrawn from many agreements that were in effect within the framework of the CIS. In 2024, the country terminated its membership in the CIS Parliamentary Assembly, suspended contributions, and closed the representation of the "Mir" television channel.
