On Monday, November 17, the UN Security Council voted in favor of a resolution supporting Donald Trump's peace plan, which includes a proposal to create international forces to stabilize the situation in the Gaza Strip. Thirteen out of the fifteen Council members supported the proposal, while Russia and China chose to abstain, reports DW.

The initiative includes not only the disarmament of the Hamas movement but also the establishment of a transitional Palestinian administration.

Before the vote, Israel expressed dissatisfaction with the phrase in the resolution regarding "a reliable path to self-determination for the Palestinian people and the creation of a Palestinian state."

Critical remarks also came from Hamas, which stated that assigning international forces the tasks of disarmament and other duties undermines their neutrality and positions them on the side of the conflict.

Earlier, G7 countries and U.S. allies in the Middle East, such as Qatar, Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan, and Turkey, called for support of the American resolution.

Trump expressed his congratulations on the social network Truth Social, noting that he will lead the "Council of Peace," which will include prominent leaders from around the world. He also thanked the Council countries without exception, including Russia and China. According to him, the names of the members of the "Council of Peace" will be announced soon.

Russia, holding veto power in the Council, proposed its version of the resolution, which did not mention either the "Council of Peace" or the deployment of international forces coordinated by the U.S. Moreover, the Russian draft did not contain a reference to the U.S. president.

However, Russian diplomats did not present their draft for a vote and criticized the American resolution, describing it as a "pig in a poke."
