As a result of the vote, out of 15 Council members, 13 supported the resolution, while Russia and China, who have veto power, abstained from voting.
On his Truth Social page, Trump noted that this "incredible UN Security Council vote" was a significant event and confirmed that he would lead a new "Council for Peace." He emphasized that it would include "the most respected and influential leaders in the world."
The American president also added that this decision would go down in history as one of the most important for the UN and would contribute to strengthening peace worldwide. He expressed gratitude to all participants, including China, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, as well as other countries that supported this decision, such as Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey.
According to CNN, the approved resolution aims to give international legitimacy to Trump's 20-point peace plan, which has become the basis for the ceasefire regime currently in effect in Gaza since last month. UN support will allow countries to participate in international security forces.
US Ambassador to the UN Michael Waltz stated that the "coalition of peacekeepers," which will mainly involve Muslim countries such as Indonesia and Azerbaijan, will operate in Gaza under a unified command to ensure security, oversee demilitarization, and deliver humanitarian aid.
However, some experts express doubts about the implementation of the resolution due to the lack of specific details, such as the timeline for transferring authority to the Palestinian administration, which is only conditionally outlined. The resolution also allows the "Council for Peace" to operate until the end of 2027, overseeing the disarmament of Hamas and the reconstruction of Gaza.
The document mentions the creation of a Palestinian state, but does not specify the timeline for its formation. "Real conditions for Palestinian self-determination can only arise after the successful completion of reforms in the Palestinian administration," the resolution states. "The US will initiate dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians to develop political prospects for peaceful coexistence," the document adds.
Israel expressed dissatisfaction with the wording of the resolution regarding Palestinian self-determination, while Hamas criticized it, claiming that the involvement of international forces in disarmament in Gaza undermines their neutrality and becomes part of the conflict, according to information from Reuters.
