Nicolas Maduro, the President of Venezuela, and his wife Cilia Flores were arrested during a nighttime special operation while they were in their home. This information was disclosed by CNN, citing two sources.

According to the network, the operation was carried out by fighters from the elite American unit Delta Force. Maduro and Flores were arrested in the middle of the night, taken from their bedroom while they were asleep.

The New York Times reports that U.S. intelligence had an informant within the Venezuelan government who monitored Maduro's activities in the days leading up to his arrest. Additionally, the president was being surveilled using stealth drones.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi previously stated that Maduro and Flores face charges of conspiracy to commit "narcoterrorism," smuggling cocaine into the U.S., as well as illegal possession of firearms and explosives with the intent to use them against the United States. These charges were officially filed in the federal court for the Southern District of New York.

ABC News reported that Maduro will be flown to New York, although the official location of his detention has not yet been disclosed.

Venezuelan authorities had previously stated that they have no information regarding the whereabouts of the president and his wife, demanding that the U.S. provide evidence of their well-being.
