Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has been appointed acting president of Venezuela following the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores by American military forces on January 3. This decision was made by the country's Supreme Court. In her statement, which was broadcast on radio and television, Rodriguez demanded the immediate release of Maduro and his wife, emphasizing that they are the legitimate leaders of Venezuela.
The 56-year-old Delcy Rodriguez has held the position of vice president since June 2018. Since August 2024, she has also served as the Minister of Hydrocarbons. Previously, she held several key ministerial positions, including Minister of Economy, Finance and Foreign Trade, Minister of Communication and Information, and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Additionally, she was the chairwoman of the National Constituent Assembly.
