Time: The number of deaths during the protests in Iran has exceeded 200 people

In Tehran, according to information from Time, 217 people have died as a result of gunfire directed at protesters. According to a source, the bodies of the deceased were found in six hospitals in the city, and most of them died from gunshot wounds. It is claimed that on January 9, the bodies were removed from medical facilities.

According to the human rights organization HRANA, other information regarding the number of victims of the protests indicates 65 fatalities over two weeks, including 50 protesters and 14 security personnel.

As noted by Time, the magazine cannot confirm the data provided by HRANA, but added that the organization only accounts for those who have been identified.

The Tasnim agency refers to official data stating that the number of killed law enforcement officers has risen to 15. It is specified that six security service members died in Fars province, and 120 police officers were injured. In Qom, two police officers died from 40 stab wounds inflicted by rioters; in Mashhad, seven security personnel were killed by the actions of demonstrators.

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Iranian authorities twice about the possible serious consequences in the event of the killing of protesters.

Protests in Iran began in late December against the backdrop of a collapse of the national currency and a sharp rise in prices. Participants in the demonstrations are demanding changes in the political system and the return to power of Prince Reza Pahlavi, the heir to the Shah. Iranian authorities claim that the protests are organized with the support of Israel and the U.S.
