Today, January 6, merchants in Tehran suspended their activities in protest as part of a nationwide strike, shouting slogans for "Freedom." Protests in Iran have been ongoing for ten days. These events have erupted against the backdrop of the national currency's decline and a new financial crisis in a country that has been living under sanctions for over 40 years.

In response to the actions of the protesters, the authorities deployed security forces against the merchants at the closed bazaar in Tehran. Tensions rose, and law enforcement used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.

The protests have spread to 27 out of 31 provinces in Iran, claiming the lives of 27 activists and two police officers.

The total number of injured during the protests, which took place in 257 locations across the country, amounted to 64 people, and 1,203 were detained. Most injuries were caused by rubber bullets and plastic projectiles.

The Iranian authorities have not made any statements regarding the number of dead or injured. However, the Ministry of Interior, in its report to parliament, characterized the protests as a "rebellion," noting that about 85% of the calls to participate in the actions originated from abroad.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iranian authorities regarding their treatment of protesters, emphasizing that the U.S. is "ready to fight."
