The relocation of the "Kelechek" market in Osh is scheduled for January 10. The head of the city market directorate, Baatyrbek Altymyshev, reported that as of today, the construction of the new facility is 80% complete.

The new "Kelechek" market will have 1,200 trading spots, including 700 with an area of 15 square meters and 500 spots of 7 square meters each. Each pavilion will be 4 meters and 70 centimeters high. The construction is being carried out based on a tripartite agreement with the "Kelechek" association. Currently, the connection to electricity is being finalized, and asphalt is being laid in the surrounding area. The new market will accommodate not only traders from "Kelechek" but also those from the "Boston" market. Altymyshev noted that the work is expected to be completed by January 10, after which the market will be put into operation.

As previously reported by Turmush, the relocation of the "Kelechek" market began on July 31. Some traders opposed this decision, while others began to receive spots at the new municipal market "Zhibek-Zholu".

Since August 1, the remaining traders continued their activities despite the power outage. They expressed dissatisfaction and insisted that they do not intend to leave their spots.

Additionally, Turmush informed that three major markets in the city of Osh — "Beksultan," "Shokolad," and "Kelechek" — are subject to relocation. The "Beksultan" and "Shokolad" markets were fully relocated on July 27, and their traders were notified in advance about the moving date.

The issue of relocating the "Kelechek" market has been raised multiple times. Last year, the city administration proposed allocating 3 hectares of land in the area of the new central market to the owners, but this proposal was not accepted. This year, traders were offered 3.5 hectares for relocation and installation of existing containers or the construction of a new market. However, these proposals also did not receive support.

Despite the protests, the city administration intends to complete the relocation of the "Kelechek" market by July 31. The goal of this initiative is to organize the central part of the city, improve the transportation situation, and create comfortable conditions for traders.

The construction of the new market began in September 2024 and will occupy an area of 6.7 hectares, offering 2,400 trading spots and jobs for 2,100 people. The total investment in the project will amount to 550 million soms.

On July 24, 2024, the deputies of the Osh City Council made a decision to relocate the central market located on Bazar Street to another location. According to the resolution, an alley with sidewalks and bike paths is planned to be created on the site of the old market, taking into account all safety norms and requirements.

Alongside the relocation of the markets, on July 14, 2024, powerful mudflows occurred in Osh and the Kara-Suu district due to heavy rains in the mountain gorges. As a result, dozens of residential houses and social facilities were flooded, and vehicles were damaged. In the Kara-Suu district, 718 houses and 12 social facilities were affected, while in Osh — 212 houses and 2 social facilities.

In connection with these events, a state of emergency was declared in the city of Osh. Unfortunately, 6 people lost their lives, including 4 members of one family. The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers visited the affected areas on July 15, noting that such a scale of disaster had not been observed in the last 30 years.
