According to Pezeshkian, the existence of the city is under threat due to serious environmental problems. He noted: “When we say that the ground is sinking by 30 centimeters daily, it indicates a disaster.” The president also called for joint efforts among officials, warning that otherwise Iran faces a “bleak future.” Furthermore, Pezeshkian pointed to the reduction of water supplies, emphasizing: “Environmental protection is no joke. Ignoring this means signing your own death warrant.”
The situation with precipitation in Iran has been worsening over the past five years. In 2025, the drought reached its peak in several decades. In early November, Al Jazeera reported a possible shortage of drinking water in Tehran for two weeks. The president even suggested the need to evacuate 15 million residents of the capital.
