President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation with Russia in the field of transport logistics in his article published on November 11 in the "Russian Gazette." In his opinion, this area has strategic significance for both countries.
Tokayev noted that 13 international transport corridors pass through Kazakhstan: five railway and eight road corridors. These corridors account for about 85% of all land freight traffic between Asia and Europe.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also pointed out the importance of further developing transit routes and the necessary infrastructure, considering the geographical location of Kazakhstan and Russia. According to him, this will contribute to strengthening transport connectivity in the territory of Eurasia.
As part of this strategy, Kazakhstan and Russia are jointly working to increase the capacity of the "Western Europe — Western China" road corridor and are modernizing 30 border crossing points. In addition, the countries are enhancing the development of the eastern branch of the "North — South" transport corridor, where an increase in freight traffic has already been noted. The railway line Russia — Kazakhstan — Turkmenistan — Iran plays a key role in this process, according to the president.
"We have signed a roadmap that will allow us to increase the capacity of this important transport artery to 20 million tons per year over the next five years," Tokayev reported.
The president added that these directions are just part of a broader spectrum of Kazakhstan-Russia cooperation.
