The Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan has initiated a check of the assets of Nurbul Nazarbayev, who is the nephew of former President Nursultan Nazarbayev and the son of Bolat Nazarbayev. This was reported by Berik Asylov, the head of the prosecutor's office, in response to a request from a deputy, as reported by Tengrenews.kz.

Previously, a month ago, Majilis deputy Rinat Zayit stated that the court had decided to deprive Nurbul Nazarbayev of assets worth 57 billion tenge (approximately $106 million) and had frozen all of his bank accounts. He also mentioned possible attempts at raiding markets by Bolat Nazarbayev and claimed the existence of "hidden assets" of the family, demanding an inventory to be conducted and their return to the state.

Then, on October 1, deputy Ermurad Bapi sent a similar request, calling for the resumption of criminal proceedings against Nurbul Nazarbayev. He noted that he had been approached by a businessman from Karaganda, Kuat Ermentayev, who reported a raid on his property by the nephew of the former president.

Berik Asylov commented on these requests, emphasizing that the work within the framework of the law concerns all individuals mentioned in the requests. "However, according to paragraph 3 of Article 8 of the law, the authorized body and members of the asset recovery commission are obliged to ensure the preservation and confidentiality of the data obtained. The information you provided will be taken into account in the fight against the illegal alienation of assets and their return," he added.

Nurbul Nazarbayev is the son of Bolat Nazarbayev, the younger brother of Nursultan Nazarbayev. He previously worked in law enforcement and is engaged in business. According to Forbes, he owns the companies LLP "Prime Capital Invest" and LLP "Prime Capital Holding".

Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the law "On the Return of Illegally Acquired Assets" on July 12, 2023. This document has become significant for the post-Soviet space, and its application covers many aspects.

Since the law came into force, the state has managed to recover assets worth 1.3 trillion tenge (about $2.4 billion). Of this amount, 750 billion tenge ($1.4 billion) were returned voluntarily, while property worth 103 billion tenge ($191 million) was returned forcibly.
