It should be noted that one of the main sporting events this month will be the International Football Tournament "Commonwealth Cup 2015," which will take place from January 16 to 25 in Saint Petersburg (Russia). Twelve youth national teams, including from Kyrgyzstan, will participate.
This year, the Kyrgyz team is in Group B with Moldova, Latvia, and the host country, Russia. The best year for our team was 2013, when the Kyrgyz players showed decent performance in the group stage. In the group stage, the Kyrgyz team first lost to Kazakhstan (1:3), but then drew with Russia (0:0) and Uzbekistan (2:2). However, the points earned from the two draws did not allow Kyrgyzstan to advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament. In the consolation tournament for ninth place, the youth team defeated Latvia and Estonia, finishing in 9th place.
However, last year, the Kyrgyz team performed worse, finishing in last place, 12th.
This year, the team aims to perform better and is currently conducting training camps in Doha, after which they will fly to Saint Petersburg.
Interesting tournaments will also take place in Bishkek. In particular, from January 28, prestigious boxing competitions will be held - the 38th International Tournament in Memory of the Hero of the USSR Duyshenkul Shopokov. Each year, thanks to the efforts of the organizers, the number of foreign teams participating in the competitions increases. This year, boxers from 10 countries are expected to participate. Unfortunately, two of Kyrgyzstan's strongest boxers, Azat Usenaliev and Omurbek Malabekov, will not participate in this tournament. They are currently in Ukraine, preparing to compete as part of the "Ukrainian Atamans" in the World Series of Boxing.
The wrestling team traditionally participates in the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix tournament in Russia. This tournament has a substantial prize fund. Almost every year, our wrestlers become prize winners. A similar tournament will also take place in France; however, the number of participants from Kyrgyzstan will depend on funding.
Additionally, Kyrgyzstan's sambists will head to the first stage of the World Cup this year. This time it will be held in Kazakhstan. The tournament will be held for the prizes of President Nursultan Nazarbayev. Generally, our state provides weak funding for sambists. However, they consistently win medals at the Asian and World Championships. We hope that this stage of the World Cup will not be an exception.
