In his speech, Tokayev emphasized that the peoples of Kazakhstan and Russia have lived in harmony for centuries, sharing both joys and hardships, and jointly creating a unified cultural space on the Eurasian continent. Both countries are united by a common perception of traditional values and similar views on modern challenges, as well as joint efforts to ensure the welfare of their peoples.
“We are confidently moving forward, based on solid principles of cooperation, respecting each other's history, culture, and traditions,” noted the President of Kazakhstan.
Tokayev added that since gaining independence, Kazakhstan has paid special attention to strengthening friendship with Russia. In the initial concepts of the country's foreign policy, the Russian direction has always held a priority place.
“The Treaty of Eternal Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance signed in 1992 became the foundation for our intergovernmental relations and symbolizes the conscious choice of our peoples,” he said.
The President noted that many changes have occurred in the world and in the post-Soviet space; however, the key ideas outlined in the Treaty remain relevant:
“Eternal friendship is not just an expression, but a reflection of our peoples' philosophical and political perception of the complex realities of today and the future.”
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also emphasized that Kazakhstan and Russia have managed to build a quality strategic partnership and alliance. “Our cooperation is based on the desire of our peoples to stand together in these unstable times. Eternal friendship truly serves as a guiding star for our states and peoples,” he added.
In the President's opinion, the relationship between the two countries is characterized by maturity and stability, as it is based on deep trust, respect, and equality. “Mutual responsibility for the future of our peoples allows us to address all issues related to bilateral cooperation. I believe that the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Russia is a key element in forming a security system in Eurasia,” concluded Tokayev.
