As Abdolalizade emphasized, the water crisis affects not only Iran but also other countries in the region. "Unchanging climate changes and the reduction of freshwater supplies make the development of desalination technologies and the use of saline water necessary," he added.
According to estimates from Iranian meteorologists, over the past month and a half, the level of precipitation in the country has decreased by 86.5% compared to previous years, while in Tehran this figure has fallen by 96.2%.
Earlier, Iranian authorities warned of a possible water crisis in the capital, caused by a lack of precipitation, drought, the draining of water bodies, and excessive consumption of water resources.
Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi also noted that authorities may impose temporary restrictions on the city's water supply and urged citizens to stock up on water and consider purchasing water tanks.
