Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, stated that if there is no rain in the coming weeks, authorities may impose restrictions on water supply in Tehran, which could lead to the necessity of evacuating the population. This news is reported by TRT World.
According to the president, the water level in the reservoirs that supply the capital has reached a record low in recent decades. Precipitation this year has been almost 40% below average levels.
Pezeshkian added that water supply rationing will be introduced first. "If there is no rain after that, we will be forced to make a decision about the evacuation of the city," he emphasized.
Tehran receives water from five major reservoirs, the supplies of which are rapidly depleting.
