Legislative measures to combat fraud have been strengthened in Kyrgyzstan. President Sadyr Japarov has signed a new law that increases liability for such crimes, as well as for non-compliance with court decisions.

According to information provided by the president's administration, the changes pertain to Article 209 of the Criminal Code. Under the new provisions, the punishment will be stricter if the fraud is committed using the internet or other digital technologies, as well as if it affects multiple individuals or is committed using one's official position.

In addition to this, the law states that the possibility of early release from punishment or avoidance of liability is only possible if full compensation for damages to the victim is made.

Fines for non-compliance with court decisions have also been significantly increased — they now range from 50,000 to 100,000 soms or may lead to imprisonment for a term of three to five years.

The new law will come into effect after its official publication.
