The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov, has approved the draft law "On Amendments to the Law on National Security." This was reported in a press release from the office of the head of state.

The law was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on September 24, 2023.

According to the new provisions, national security agencies can conduct judicial examinations and forensic investigations, including based on contracts, with payment in accordance with the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of public services.

It is important to note that in 2024, the State National Security Committee (GKNB) opened a laboratory for DNA analysis, which allows for molecular-genetic research, including the creation of DNA profiles and the establishment of biological relationships. This institution also conducts forensic examinations of objects seized from crime scenes. To date, this laboratory is the only one in Kyrgyzstan and operates exclusively for law enforcement agencies.

Citizens of the country in need of genotyping previously turned to foreign laboratories. In this regard, the GKNB proposed to amend the law to allow the provision of paid services to private individuals. Additional details can be found here.
