At a briefing dedicated to issues of combating "pharmacy drug addiction," the head of the prevention department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Drug Control Service, Kanibek Usenov, reported that some pharmacies continue to sell potent medications without the necessary documentation.

Since the beginning of this year, the moratorium on inspections in the field of entrepreneurship has been lifted. Previously, law enforcement agencies had no opportunity to inspect pharmacy establishments; however, even now this can only be done with the involvement of the pharmaceutical department. Usenov added that in 2023, a draft law was developed, which was approved by the Jogorku Kenesh, and stricter measures were introduced. Now, the fine for selling potent medications without a prescription has increased from 5,000 to 200,000 soms, and the revocation of licenses for pharmacies violating the law is also provided for.

Nevertheless, according to Usenov, the smuggling of medications remains a serious problem. He emphasized that the Ministry of Health monitors the supply of medications to pharmacies through a special application. "Some pharmacies, acting unscrupulously, purchase medications illegally and sell them without prescriptions," he clarified.
