The canal covers lands that are well-suited for irrigation and receives its main water supply from the Ak-Buura River. However, the main hydraulic structures built 40–70 years ago have deteriorated and need major repairs.
Upon completion of the reconstruction, the Aravan-Ak-Buura Canal will provide reliable water supply for over 16 thousand hectares of agricultural land. This will also reduce water losses, optimize the distribution of water resources, and decrease risks associated with mudflows and floods, which in turn will enhance the yield and resilience of local agriculture.
Bakyt Torobaev emphasized the importance of this project: “The Aravan-Ak-Buura Canal is a strategic facility for agriculture in both the Osh region and the entire southern region. The modernization of this canal will serve as a new impetus for the work of thousands of farmers. After the reconstruction is completed, stable water supply will be ensured for more than 16 thousand hectares, allowing farmers to increase their yields. The main task of the Government is effective management of water resources and ensuring water supply for every household,” noted the minister.
