The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, stated the necessity of relocating the capital from Tehran, as reported by the IRNA agency. During a meeting with residents of Qazvin province, he noted: “The situation is such that we no longer have alternatives; relocating the capital has become a necessity.”
Among the reasons for this step, he cited serious water supply issues, which, along with the increasing urban population, could lead to a humanitarian disaster.
In March of this year, Iranian authorities faced a severe crisis affecting four provinces: Khorasan Razavi, Yazd, Isfahan, and Tehran. The main cause was years of drought.
A key problem facing the Iranian government in these regions is the drying up of rivers, water bodies, and the decreasing efficiency of dams.
