At a press conference on November 19, the mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, stated that the general plan for the development of the capital should not contribute to an increase in internal migration.

According to him, the city hall has received over 3,000 proposals for changes to the general plan. Junushaliev noted that all submitted proposals will be carefully examined; however, the city hall's position remains clear: Bishkek should not become a magnet for migrants.

The mayor emphasized: "If we assume that by 2050 the population of Bishkek will reach 2 million people, then this is the direction we should develop. Our task is to create comfortable conditions for the city's residents, but it is also important that other cities and regions of the country develop in parallel and provide decent conditions for their citizens."

It is also worth noting that the new general plan for Bishkek, which covers the period until 2050, has been published for public discussion and is set to be approved at the beginning of next year.
