Iranian authorities have begun artificially inducing rain amid drought

As Iran faces a severe drought, the government has decided to implement cloud seeding methods. According to Kazinform, citing data from the BBC, this technology involves spraying chemicals such as silver iodide or potassium, both from aircraft and the ground, to promote the condensation of water vapor and, consequently, induce precipitation.

This method was used over Lake Urmia last weekend, the largest saltwater lake in Iran, which has significantly shrunk in recent years due to a lack of moisture and has partially turned into a salt flat.

According to reports, cloud seeding operations will continue in the coming days in the regions of West and East Azerbaijan, which are near the lake and border the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Iranian Meteorological Organization reports that this year, precipitation levels in the country have decreased by 89% compared to normal figures. Cloud seeding technology has been used for several decades and is actively employed to address water scarcity issues, including in the United Arab Emirates.
