Schoolchildren in Germany took to the streets instead of classes to protest against the military reform
In Germany, thousands of students and schoolchildren organized mass protests against a new military reform that introduces elements of mandatory service. This was reported by Meduza. The main demonstrations took place in Berlin, where around 800 people gathered by noon on Friday. The protests spread to approximately 90 cities across the country.

The protests were a response to an amendment to the legislation passed by the Bundestag on December 5. The new law requires all men who have reached the age of 18 to fill out a health questionnaire and indicate their readiness for military service. Women's participation in the survey remains voluntary.

Men born since 2008 are required to undergo a medical examination.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, in his video address, noted that citizens have the right to protest but emphasized that "democracy cannot defend itself and needs military support."

It was reported the day before that the bill to reinstate conscription was approved by lawmakers with a majority vote: 323 voted "for," 272 voted "against," and one lawmaker abstained.

It was also previously reported that if it is not possible to attract the necessary number of volunteers for the Bundeswehr, conscription for military service will be introduced by lottery in Germany.
