In Manila, more than 550,000 people took to the streets to express their protest against corrupt actions related to the construction of flood protection facilities. In particular, those close to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. are suspected of corruption.

According to DW agency, large-scale demonstrations took place on Sunday, November 16, when participants called for accountability for those involved in the embezzlement of budget funds allocated for infrastructure projects aimed at combating floods, with a total cost of over 500 billion pesos (approximately 7.3 billion euros).

According to police, the event organized by the influential Christian organization Iglesia ni Cristo gathered around 550,000 protesters.

Posters displayed slogans such as "Justice!" and "Transparency instead of conspiracy." According to the organizers, this event became the largest protest related to the corruption scandal. New protests are planned for November 17 and 18, sources report.
